Business challenge
Physical inventory meant printed count sheets, a day of walking the aisles and an evening of typing results into SAP. Differences were discovered late, recounts were argued over by email, and posting was one more manual step at the end of a long day.
Solution
Counters use a mobile application on a tablet or phone: scan the bin or the material, enter the quantity, move on. Batch and serial numbers are captured from the label. Results reach SAP immediately. The inventory manager works from a single dashboard: create and release count documents, see which areas are counted and which are still open, sort differences by value, send an area for recount, and post the accepted differences to the books. Everything happens on one screen.
Architecture
- Count documentCreated and released from the dashboard
- Tablet / phoneScan, count, confirm
- SAPCount results in real time
- DifferencesReviewed, recounted, approved
- PostingBooks updated from the same screen
Results
- Counting and posting happen on the same day
- Differences appear as they are counted, not after the sheets are typed
- One screen runs the whole count, from document to posting
- No paper and no re-keying
